Being of the official side events of 14th ASEM Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (ASEMFM14), the 12th ASEF Journalists’ Seminar (ASEFJS12) took place on 13-14 December 2019, in Madrid Spain. The Seminar was organised by the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) at the venue of Agencia EFE.

Background

Following up on the theme of the 9th ASEF Editors’ Roundtable (ASEFERT9) – “Exploring the Battlefronts of ‘Fake News’: A Tripartite Approach to the Fight Against Misinformation” – the 12th ASEF Journalists’ Seminar (ASEFJS12) continued along the same path by focusing on media trust and information.

ASEFJS12 explored how a trust-based approach to reporting can be adopted and strengthened by news media organisations and journalists. This helped shape positive perceptions among ASEM societies of the value that Asia-Europe relationships presents.

Format

As a primarily training-oriented event, ASEFJS12 adopted a module-based approach focused on maximising benefits and encouraging tangible takeaways. The event featured a dynamic format, combining different modules and their related sub-topics to curate a productive educational programme for all participants involved. The overall aim was to address journalists’ needs and challenges by providing them with the tools needed to tackle disinformation in the digital age.

The Seminar was live on YouTube on both days:
