ASEM info Board - Asia-Europe Meeting

As announced in the Chair’s Conclusions of the 6th ASEM Education Ministers’ Meeting (ASEMME6) and the 3rd ASEM Intermediate Senior Officials’ Meeting (ASEM ISOM3), the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research of Austria would host the meeting in Krems, Austria, from 15-17 October 2018.

Themed under “Pathways of Recognition: A Contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) from a Lifelong Learning Perspective“, ASEM SOM1 for ASEMME7 was held in close collaboration with the Danube University Krems, the University for Continuing Education.

On 16 October morning, welcoming words were delivered by Rector Friedrich FAULHAMMER from the Danube University, representatives from the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research, and ASEM Education Secretariat respectively. It was followed by a keynote speech, given by Mr HR. Borhene CHAKROUN, UNESCO, Chief of Section for Youth Literacy and Skills Development.

In the afternoon, 3 workshops were conducted to discuss more specific topics, including 1) instruments dealing with recognition and quality assurance, 2) individual learning pathways and 3) collaboration opportunities and challenges between businesses and education:

  • Workshop 1: Tools for Recognition: Quality Assurance and Recognition stand for a welcoming culture and a culture of trust
  • Workshop 2: Collaboration to stimulate transition between educational levels and systems
  • Workshop 3: Academia and Non-Academia – A Challenging Cooperation
