On behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) organised the next ASEM Education Senior Officials Meeting (SOM1) on 14th and 15th of September 2021. ASEM Senior Officials and stakeholders were invited to participate in the meeting in preparation for the 8th ASEM Education Ministers Meeting (ASEMME8).

Due to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, the meeting was organised virtually. The aim of the meeting was to agree on a finalised version of the ASEM Education Strategy and Action Plan 2030. Both documents were to be endorsed at the next Ministerial Meeting (ASEMME8) hosted by Thailand in December.
