The 3rd ASEM Interfaith Dialogue was built upon the outcomes from the previous Interfaith Dialogues: the First ASEM Interfaith Dialogue (Bali, Indonesia in 2005); and the Second ASEM Interfaith Dialogue (Larnaca, Cyprus in 2006).
Co-hosted by China and Italy and co-sponsored by Austria, Denmark, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, the Netherlands, Pakistan, the Philippines, Spain and Thailand, the theme of this third Interfaith Dialogue was “Deepening Interfaith Dialogue for Peace, Development and Harmony.” It was further concentrated into four topics that were discussed in four parallel working groups. The topics were:
- Interfaith Dialogue and Globalization;
- Interfaith Dialogue and Peace;
- Interfaith Dialogue and Social Cohesion and Development; and
- Interfaith Dialogue and the Promotion of Cultural and Educational Cooperation.
The Dialogue reached agreement on several understanding and actions to be taken for furthering the ASEM Interfaith Dialogue in the Nanjing Statement on Interfaith Dialogue.
