The 3rd Asia-Europe Parliamentary Partnership Meeting (ASEP 3) was held on 25-26 March 2004 in the imperial city of Hue, Viet Nam under the theme, Towards the ASEM5 Summit Meeting – Parliamentarians’ contribution to the Asia-Europe Partnership with the participation of Speakers and Heads of Delegations from the 10 Asian countries, the Member States of the European Union and the European Parliament, the representative of the European Commission, the Secretaries General of AIPO and ASEAN were invited as guests of the host parliament.

This Meeting highlighted the views of parliamentarians towards “further revitalizing and substantiating the Asia-Europe Partnership” in consonance with the 5th ASEM Summit’s (ASEM5) spirit.

ASEP3 provided a forum for dialogues between Asia and Europe’s parliamentarians on the three main pillars of the Asia-Europe partnership, namely, economic and cultural cooperation as well as political and security issues in the context of recent regional and international developments.

The main topics for this Meeting were: “Asia-Europe partnership for a fairer and more equal global trade”; “Cultural identity and diversity in the context of the Asia-Europe partnership” and “Current international security situation and challenges to international law”.
