The Youth Dialogues with ASEM Leaders are virtual sessions that connect young people with ASEM Leaders and, hence, encourage their interest and participation in the ASEM process. Embedded in the 4th ASEF Young Leaders Summit (ASEFYLS4) programme, they serve as curtain raisers in the lead up to the 13th ASEM Summit, hosted by the Government of Cambodia towards the end of the year. The discussion in each dialogue will focus on one Sustainable Development Goal (either SDG3, 4, 8 or 13). The dialogues will include inspirational remarks by the ASEM Leader, followed by a conversation that is moderated by ASEFYLS4 youth representatives.
At the beginning, of the Youth Dialogue Series, ASEF wishes to start with a general session on the ASEFYLS4 topic “Sustainable Development in a post-COVID19 world – How can ASEM as a multilateral forum contribute?”. This session will set the framework and allow for a critical reflection on the need for more effective multilateral systems, including ASEM. Ambassador Johannes MATYASSY, Deputy State Secretary in the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), Switzerland, will also discuss with the ASEFYLS4 participants the role of youth in the multilateral initiatives and political decision making process.
This session will be closed door with an audience that will be made up of the ASEFYLS4 participants.
