ASEM info Board - Asia-Europe Meeting

Laos will host the 4th ASEM Sustainable Dialogue on Integrated Water Resources Management for Sustainable Development in June 2015. This follows up the outcomes of the 3rd ASEM Sustainable Development Seminar on Water Management – Fostering Prosperity and Stability Through Inter-regional Cooperation, held in Tulcea, Romania, 2-3 June 2014.

During the 10th ASEM Summit, with the theme “Responsible Partnership for Sustainable Growth and Security”, Leaders reaffirmed their engagement to address emerging challenges through trans-boundary cooperation and collective efforts, with the view towards promoting sustainable water management, flood risk control and ensuring access to safe drinking water and sanitation. ASEM Leaders committed to stimulate tangible cooperation between Europe and Asia in water-related issues, reaffirming ASEM’s engagement to concrete bi-regional cooperation between the Danube and Mekong regions in order to transform the shared challenges related to food, water and energy security into opportunities for growth and sustainable development. In this context, Lao PDR proposes to host the 4th ASEM Seminar on Integrated Water Resources Management for Sustainable Development.

The Seminar will focus on the following objectives:

  1. To present and discuss on the current water resources management at the national and regional level in Asia and Europe.
  2. To provide a dialogue on impacts and solutions of development on water sectors among ASEM countries and stake holders.
  3. To increase the awareness, identified the required policies and at national, regional and global level to support the water management to a sustainable growth and development in the future.
