At the Second ASEM Ministerial Meeting held in May 2009 in Hanoi the Ministers welcomed China’s offer to organise a workshop, supported by Germany, on attractiveness and employability in technical and vocational training (TVET) in China.
The Ministry of Education, P.R.China, together with the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and supported by the ASEM Education Secretariat held the “ASEM Technical and Vocational Education Symposium” in Qingdao, China, on January 11-12, 2011.
Under the headline “How to Improve the Attractiveness and Employability of TVET in the Current Global Economic Situation”, mainly three aspects were covered:
- How to raise the status of TVET?
- How to balance student demand and employer needs?
- How to engage social partners more effectively?
During the symposium, delegates actively discussed TVET development and suggested to meet regularly in order to implement a platform for ASEM members to share effective policies and best practices in TVET development.
