The “ASEM Youth Week: Stronger Actions to Address Zero Hunger Challenge” in conjunction with the “Model ASEM Ha Noi 2016” was held in Ha Noi and Ha Long, Viet Nam on 31 March-07 April 2016. The events were co-organised by the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Youth Union, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Viet Nam, ASEF and British Council.
The ASEM Youth Week is an initiative co-sponsored by Viet Nam, Brunei, Ireland and Lao PDR, which was endorsed at the 10th ASEM Summit in October 2014 in Milan, Italy.
The events are aimed at enhancing the youth’s understanding of Asia-Europe partnership and the ASEM process, raising awareness among the youth of potential cooperation on poverty eradication, and providing them a platform to take actions in the fight against hunger. The participants can also develop their skills in the fields of negotiation, diplomacy and consensus-building.
The Organising Committee also launched the Open Call for the ASEM Youth Week in conjunction with Model ASEM Ha Noi 2016, drawing undergraduate and graduate students between the ages of 18-30 from 51 ASEM Partner countries.
