The Hague, Netherlands

The Sixth Asia-Europe Young Parliamentarians Meeting (AEYPM6) will be held from 26 February to 2 March 2007 in The Hague, Netherlands. This AEYPM co-organised by the Asia-Europe Foundation, the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the International Institute for Asian Studies, and is hosted by the Netherlands House of Representatives.

Five successful AEYPM meetings have been held in the Philippines, Portugal, Indonesia, Italy and China respectively. The AEYPM aims to foster high-level exchange of ideas and intensive networking between young parliamentarians from Asia and Europe. The theme for the sixth YPM, Towards an Asia-Europe Parliamentarian Partnership, takes on the issue of pursuing a sustainable future whilst meeting the needs of today. Themes that will be discussed include migration and community building; education & knowledge-based societies, security issues & civil liberties.

AEYPM6 will offer the opportunity to compare best practices so as to create new benchmarks in an evolving society in the 21st century. The Parliamentarians will discuss the shifting paradigms in Asia-Europe relations and be challenged to change perceptions and gain new perspectives. The event also aims to move beyond dialogue towards deliverable goals applicable in a national and regional setting. Not only will issues of importance to Asia and Europe be debated, but the outcomes are expected to be translated into actual steps towards a closer Asian-European partnership in a global context.
