The Leuven Centre for Global Governance Studies, the Inbev Baillet Latour Chair EU-China, Leuven India Focus and UN Brussels will host an International Workshop on EU, Asia and Global Governance: What Role for ASEM?.
The workshop will focus on the role of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) in the governance of global challenges. The first session will look into the architecture of ASEM, in particular the position and responsibilities of emerging powers and ASEM partners China and India. The second session will consider the agenda of the ASEM 8 Summit vis-à-vis global governance, with emphasis on the reform of multilateral organizations and the importance of regional integration in Asia.
The workshop is listed as an official preparatory event of the 4-5 October 2010 ASEM Summit, and will be organized in cooperation with the Federal Public Service for Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation of Belgium.
