A meeting of foreign ministers ended Tuesday in Hanoi, with officials rejecting protectionism as a cure for the global financial crisis.

The 9th Foreign Ministers' Meeting of the Asia-Europe Meeting convention was aimed at boosting Asian-European relations, Xinhua reported.

Protectionist measures to enact barriers to trade may provoke "retaliatory actions" that would harm world economy recovery, ministers said in a statement.

The Chinese news service also reported that foreign ministers at the meeting called for enhancing market access for exports from developing countries.
