Thailand Celebrates ASEM Day 2025

19 February 2025

On 11-12 February 2025, the Department of European Affairs, in collaboration with the Faculty of Political Science and Public Administration at Chiang Mai University, organised the annual ASEM Day 2025 as part of the university’s 25th Political Science Academic Club. Deputy Director-General of the Department of European Affairs, Ms Somrudee Poopornanake, delivered the opening speech to more than 150 high school students. The event featured academic lectures on the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) and a group quiz competition aimed at increasing awareness of Asia-Europe relations and cooperation. Additionally, students were introduced to the European Union and career opportunities in diplomacy to spark their interest in international affairs.

ASEM Day is celebrated annually on 1 March to commemorate the first ASEM Summit held in Bangkok in 1996. It remains the only dedicated forum for Asia-Europe dialogue, bringing together leaders from both regions to strengthen cooperation and understanding. As part of the celebrations, the Department of European Affairs also engaged youth from Chiang Mai University Demonstration School and the Faculty of Humanities at Chiang Mai University in ASEM Day activities, fostering greater engagement in global affairs among students.
