Thailand Celebrates ASEM Day 2026

The Department of Europe organised the “ASEM Day 2026” activity in collaboration with the Faculty of Political Science and Law, Burapha University

On 13 March 2026, the Department of European Affairs organised “ASEM Day 2026” in collaboration with the Faculty of Political Science and Law, Burapha University. The event was attended by more than 100 students and aimed to enhance awareness and understanding of Asia-Europe relations and Thailand’s diplomatic work. The opening remarks were delivered by Ms Woramon Sinsuwan, Director of the European Union Division and Assistant Professor Pol Capt Dr Wichian Tansirikongkol, Dean of the Faculty of Political Science and Law, Burapha University.

As part of the programme, the Department of European Affairs conducted an academic lecture on the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) and the European Union (EU), highlighting their roles in promoting dialogue and cooperation between the two regions.  A group quiz competition was also organised to encourage students’ engagement and deepen their understanding of Asia and Europe relations and the broader international context.

The event also features a session introducing pathways to joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including information on the civil service entrance examination and career opportunities in the diplomatic service. Participants were introduced to various aspects of diplomatic work, such as multilateral and bilateral affairs, protocol and consular services. The session aimed to inspire students and foster their interest in Thailand’s foreign affairs and diplomatic career paths.  In addition, the Department provided an overview of the work and services of the Temporary Passport Office in Pattaya.

ASEM Day is celebrated annually on 1 March to commemorate the founding of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) on 1 March 1996, when the first ASEM Summit was held in Bangkok.  ASEM remains the only dialogue forum dedicated specifically to Asia and Europe, where leaders from both regions convene regularly to strengthen cooperation and partnership.
