ASEM 20th Anniversary: Celebrating Asia-Europe Relations
On 1 March 2016 Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) turned 20 years old. For the past 2 decades ASEM has played a pivotal role as a forum for dialogue and cooperation. The 1st ASEM Summit (ASEM1) held on 1-2 March 1996 in Bangkok, Thailand, marked the start of a process that engaged both regions in dialogue and cooperation on political, economic and socio-cultural issues. From an initial gathering of 26 partners, it now has 53 partners from both regions. ASEM will celebrate its 20th anniversary on 15-16 July 2016 at the 11th ASEM Summit (ASEM11) in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, where ASEM Head of State & Government will discuss and plan the future of ASEM.
