Asia and Europe are committed to promoting sustainable development, supporting vulnerable communities and meeting shared climate objectives. Asia, while progressing in renewables, often balances climate goals with rapid economic growth, focusing on gradual transitions and regional resilience to climate impacts. Europe emphasises enforceable regulations and carbon neutrality targets, prioritising renewable energy and green finance. However, technology gaps in green infrastructure and unequal global resources for climate resilience and adaptation, etc stymie overall progress in fighting climate change. Through initiatives such as the EU-ASEAN High-Level Dialogue on Environment and Climate Change and EU-China High Level Environment and Climate Dialogue, at both political and working levels, the two regions have collaborated to tackle climate issues, such as climate adaptation, mitigation and green technology transfer. Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) has also prioritised tackling global environmental issues and striving for sustainable development, as outlined in the Asia-Europe Cooperation Framework (AECF) established in 2000 in Seoul, Korea.
COP29 (Azerbaijan, 11-22 November 2024) is approaching as the world faces urgent challenges from climate change. According to the latest IPCC report (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, 2023), global temperatures have risen by approximately 1.1°C since the pre-industrial era, increasing the risk of exceeding the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C warming limit. A new UN report warns of global warming of more than 3°C by the end of the century. At COP29, a key focus will be how to deliver more and better climate finance to countries and communities that need it most urgently. Countries, including from Asia and Europe, will also signal how they will strengthen their national climate commitments and deliver on their past pledges. As two of the world’s largest and most populous regions, Asia and Europe are key to mitigating the climate crisis and securing a sustainable future. Their collective efforts will be crucial.

It’s awesome to see more groups talking about climate change and how it’s affecting Asia and Europe. Fingers crossed that COP 29 brings some good news for the planet! Your posts help move the conversation along. Keep sharing the message.
Hello Georgina! Our aim is to raise awareness about climate change. We are monitoring the developments and will share more information on our Infoboard. Thank you for your support! =)
ASEM focusing on climate change this month is a smart move to get people talking about one of the biggest issues we face mainly because Cop29 is taking place now too, I was just reading about it and this article here was such a good compliment.Climate change touches every part of the world it is affecting everything from our ecosystems to our food supply and livelihoods. By shining a light on this topic, it really emphasizes how important it is for countries to work together, think of new policies, will help slow down the damage that has been done already, we need to come up with solutions that everyone can use.
Sharing info about climate change isn’t just about spreading knowledge; it also creates a sense of shared responsibility and purpose for each person! It encourages people to take action and raise awareness at all levels of society.
The result of the recent US Election doesn’t bode well for climate change and environmental concerns in general. It was Donald Trump who pulled the country out of the Paris Agreement and his policies 8 years later definitely seem to show the same disconcern – on the border of denial – regarding climate change. Given that the US is one of the biggest poluters as is already, it is ever so crucial to keep sharing information and showing why it is critical to take action to combat climate change with facts by making the information more and more accessible. Global Warming should be, as is in the name, a global concern. Asia, Europe and all continents and countries really need to make a joined effort on this.
